Tips

Measuring Glass

When measuring for glass you need to determine a horizontal and vertical measurement, respectively. Measure the daylight (the portion you can see) glass surface. If an opening is out of square, take measurements at six points; top, center, bottom and left, middle, right to determine glass size. Be sure to tell the SGO Designer that this is the daylight size. Your SGO Designer will make the necessary allowances according to the installation.

Cleaning Stained Glass

To clean leaded-cut glass or stained glass overlay, spray cleaning solution, windex, vinegar and water or alcohol onto a towel then wipe panel clean. Caution! Too much direct pressure on traditional leaded-cut glass may bow the panel and potentially break the glass.

Color and Natural Light

Bright, intense colors will add warmth to north-facing rooms that get little or no sunlight. Cool colors, such as blues and greens, can cool down a south-facing room subjected to too much sunlight.

Problem Windows

Unique shaped windows, architecturally appealing in their own right, lend nicely to the addition of another design element. The modest introduction of textures will engage your tactile sense as well as enhance your visual sense. Many times windows are in locations (entry, bathroom, bedroom) that present a privacy concern to the resident. It's best to first determine what degree of privacy is needed and design the window treatment on that basis.
